Dr. Philippe Hinsinger

From 2018 until end of 2022, Philippe Hinsinger has been Head of the AgroEcoSystem Division of INRAE, gathering 46 research units throughout the country, working in the fields of agronomy, ecology and environmental sciences. He has been working at INRA, now INRAE for 35 years, obtained his PhD in 1990 after having spent two years at UCLouvain in Belgium. He also spent two years as visiting scientist at UWA in Western Australia in 1993-94. He is working at UMR Eco&Sols (a joint venture of CIRAD, INRAE, IRD and Institut Agro) in Montpellier.

Research summary

Philippe Hinsinger's research is at the interface of Life and Environmental Sciences, working on rhizosphere and soil biogeochemistry in relation to plant nutrition. Ongoing projects are related to using more diversified agroecosystems (intercropping or agroforestry systems) as a major driver in agroecology to enhance the production in low input arable and organic farming conditions. He has been coordinating a COST Action dedicated to rhizosphere research in 2004-2006 and launched the successful series of international RHIZOSPHERE Conferences, organising that of Montpellier in 2007. He recently coordinated the H2020 multi-actor project SolACE for increasing crop efficiency to access belowground resources. He published 110+ papers, gathering 10000+ citations, with a H-index of 51 (according to Web of Science).
