Dr. Nassirou Mahamadou Adamou
Biografie
Nassirou is a biotechnology engineer, master's degree in phytotechnics. He has experience in the in vitro culture of forest species in particular Phoenix dactylifera, Moringa oleifere, Maerua crassifolia, Salvadora persica,... During his PhD thesis, he identified and characterized the glycosyltransferase family 72 of Populus tremula x Populus alba. Today, he is an associate researcher at Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey in molecular biology. Currently, he is a post-doctoral fellow at ULB-LBV where he is developing molecular and physiological markers on cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) to better understand how this species copes with abiotic stress condition in Niger.
Research summary
Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp) plays a preponderant socio-economic role in Nigerien society, placing Niger in second place in world production. It is a nitrogen-fixing legume, which tolerates drought and high temperatures. However, the low yield coupled with various environmental stresses severely affects the productivity of this crop. The research undertaken aims to study the molecular mechanisms underlying the drought stress response with a focus on lignin deposition on secondary cell wall in cowpea.
